Royal Agricultural Society of the Commonwealth (RASC) Scholarship: Amy Stoner

Amy Stoner, 22, from Buckland, Oxfordshire is an MSc Food Industry Management student and recipient of the Royal Agricultural Society of the Commonwealth scholarship.

“I graduated from Harper Adams University with a First Class BSC (Hons) international degree in Food Nutrition and Wellbeing in September 2018. As I achieved a first class I was fortunate to receive a fully funded MSc from Harper Adams, which I am now completing in Food Industry Management (full time).

“I applied for the RASC scholarship because it was an amazing and exciting opportunity, to further develop my knowledge and understanding of the current issues that we face within the commonwealth, to know what needs to be done. I felt the knowledge I would gain from the RASC conference would put me one step ahead when working in the international food industry sector, as agricultural issues and concerns need to be addressed over the upcoming years.

“The RASC scholarship from Harper Adams University provided me with an unforgettable opportunity. I am now looking at signing up to my local society at home, (Royal Bath and West), as the conference really inspired me to become a member.

“I plan to communicate my experience from RASC with others at Harper Adams and the wider community. By promoting the development of secure sustainable agriculture (especially in the production of food) within the UK, by giving presentations and speeches to people at Harper Adams and the wider community such as schools and young farmers clubs. Agricultural issues and concerns need to be addressed over the coming years and therefore it is vital agriculture is promoted to the next generation.

“When I graduate I plan to take a year out and work in the agricultural industry in Australia, to further broaden my experience within the whole food supply chain, from farm to fork. Following this, my ambition is to work for a large food manufacturer or retailer within the technical department.”
